What is a Volleyball IQ test?
A volleyball IQ test measures how well you read the game beyond a big vertical or a hard arm swing — the rotational awareness and shot selection that separate a player who understands volleyball from one who's just reacting to the ball. SpoVote's free Volleyball IQ Test — we call it Net IQ — is a 10-question multiple-choice quiz built around situations that come up under indoor FIVB rules: when a back-row player is allowed to attack above the height of the net, how a team should adjust its block to a quick middle attack, why serve-receive formations shift depending on who's serving, and how a libero's substitutions actually work. It's not a trivia quiz about tournaments or rosters — every question probes volleyball IQ the way a coach would: rotation, positioning, and the reasoning behind the call.
Scoring is difficulty-weighted, not a simple percent-correct. Each question is tagged easy, medium, or hard, and harder questions are worth more toward your final 0–100 score — so getting the trickier rotation and blocking-scheme questions right moves the needle further than the basic ones. Your score maps to one of five tiers, from Rookie up through Role Player, Starter, All-Star, and Hall of Fame — the same shorthand players use to talk about where someone fits on a roster. Every attempt draws a fresh, stratified mix of easy, medium, and hard questions from SpoVote's volleyball question bank, so retaking the test isn't just re-answering the same ten prompts.
The questions span four core skill areas coaches actually look for: rotation reads, hitting angles, block timing, and serve-receive patterns. A sample question from the bank: "Your back-row outside hitter wants to attack a ball above net height from near the 3-meter line — under FIVB rules, what makes this legal?" The right answer comes down to takeoff, not landing: as long as the player jumps from behind the attack line, the hit is legal even if their momentum carries them past the line before or after contact — it's only a violation if they leave the ground in front of it. That's the kind of rules-and-positioning read this test is built to score.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a real IQ test?+
No — despite the name, this isn't a clinical or standardized intelligence test like one administered by a psychologist. "Net IQ" is sports shorthand for volleyball game awareness, decision-making, and rules and strategy knowledge. Think of it as a volleyball knowledge and instincts quiz, not a measure of general intelligence — just for fun, with no diagnostic value.
How is the score calculated?+
Each of the 10 questions is weighted by difficulty — easy counts for 1 point, medium for 2, and hard for 3 — toward the maximum possible weighted score. Your result is your weighted-correct total divided by that maximum, rounded to a 0–100 scale, which then places you in a tier from Rookie to Hall of Fame.
What does the test cover?+
Ten multiple-choice questions on indoor FIVB rules, strategy, and situational awareness — rotation reads, block timing, and serve-receive patterns. It's not stats trivia or tournament history.
Can I retake it?+
Yes — every attempt draws a fresh, stratified mix of easy, medium, and hard questions from the full volleyball question bank, so retaking it isn't just answering the same 10 prompts again.
Do I need to sign up?+
